We looked at the average sold price of homes in MLS area SWW during each 12 month period. The average price of homes sold in Southwest Austin in the 2008-2009 period was $285,468. For the 2009-2010 period it was 291,362 and for the last 12 months it had risen to 292,665. This steady increase despite the distressed economy shows that Southwest Austin homes are not only holding their value during this difficult time, but are actually increasing in value. So the truth is, there is no catch. You can buy a beautiful Southwest Austin home at an affordable price right now, but as Austin continues to grow, this opportunity may not last.
